how japan was formed
Japan was born over a million years ago by violent earthquakes. Mountains were pushed out from the sea which are now Japan's islands. Today, these movements in the earth's crust are causing rough earthquakes that can destroy buildings and homes and cause volcanoes to erupt.
Mount fuji
This mountain is recognized as a symbol of Japan. This is a volcano that remained dormant for about 300 years. Mt. Fuji looks spectacular during the spring and winter. During these seasons, it is covered with snow more than during summer and fall.
Some Japanese paintings and poems have subjects based on this mountain. During the summer, tons of people climb Mt. Fuji for religious reasons or a part of a sport challenge. There is not a single tree on the mountain and it is very rocky. Climbers who make it to the top are so happy with their special achievement.
